The Year Ahead — Ace of Swords // Crucis
The year ahead brings clarity and triumph over our struggles. 2018 was a year of disruptions, retrogrades, and quite frankly a whole lot of bullshit both personally and on a global level.
Trust your intuition in the coming year, use discrimination and wisdom when faced with crossroads, and find yourself bathing in the success of all you do. The work won’t be easy, but the results are worth it.
January — Eight of Wands // Ara
Yes! Do the thing you’ve been mulling over and wondering if the outcome will be worth it. Jump into your creativity, your projects and plans wholeheartedly. You can do this and the universe is on your side. Kiss the one you’ve had your eye on, book the flight. Just. Do. It. You will come out on top and set the tone for the rest of your year. Bring joy to your soul with the knowledge that you can find success if you jump in and do the dang thing!
February — XX Judgement // Pluto
Sit, rest, and ride the tide into the underworld. Hold onto your joy from January because this ride won’t be easy. Remember that it’s worth it though. Do not be afraid. The shadow work means you’re still alive; there are no shadows without light. So embrace the darkness, wrap yourself up in it like a lover as you say goodbye, and find what it is that is blocking your sun.
You can’t move forward until you’ve accepted what has passed. Use this month to do just that. What in your past is holding you back? Find it, confront it, and look it in the eyes and say these words: “______, you have no place in my life anymore. What has been is over, what will be will be. I release you from my heart and take wisdom from the memories.” Move on.
March — VIII Strength // Leo
Revel in your power. If you did the work in February then you have found new channels of strength to lift you back out of the underworld. Do not forget this newfound power; it is a new aspect of your soul and will serve you well in the coming months, years, and lifetimes. True strength goes far beyond what we can work to in the gym. This is a spiritual strength and the underworld is your bench press.
April — XIV Temperance // Sagittarius
It’s okay to take a moment to stand on the shoreline and assess the wave break before you go jumping in. Action is the only way to manifest our desires on this journey we’re on, but a cannonball with no plan can lead you straight into the rip current that will pull you into the open ocean with no life boat.
So slow down, sit for a second in the sand, and watch where those waves are crashing down. When you’re ready, when you’ve found that sweet spot that steady observation will show you - jump in and swim with the waves of life. Notice the strength of your steadfast strokes.
May — Ten of Wands // Fire
The fires are coming but do not be afraid. You will only be burned if you resist. Step into the flames and trust that you are safe. Bask in the heat and let it melt away what no longer serves you. Do not douse yourself with water, this is not that sort of cleansing.
Burn like the witches before you, and emerge stronger, wiser, and ever closer to the future you now find seared in your minds eye.
June — XIII Death // Scorpio
The embers are still smoking but it is time to move on. You find yourself face to face with the underworld again, but stand tall and remember your work from the beginning of the year. Death now invites you not to stay below ground, but rather to leave behind what is dead to you, what you carry on your back that keeps you from standing tall.
Arise from the ashes that are left by the Ten of Wands - rebirthed, renewed, a Phoenix.
July — Five of Cups // Ophiuchus
No Phoenix begins anew without a period of readjustment. From Celestial Tarot: “The Five of Cups draws us into the liminal space between the wounding and the healing where we can restore our sense of self through interaction with the gods of the imagination.”
August — King of Swords // Cardinal Air
The last few months have been immersed in inner work. Emerge now, it is time to reenter the external world. Use caution, but find your state of balance. Exert your authority over your outer realm using the wisdom you have developed within you. Take control of who, how, and what you let enter your realm.
September — Four of Swords // Pisces Australis
Rest, reflect, digest all that has passed. We are coming to the end of the third quarter of the year and so much has gone down. What have you learned? What is still not working? Where did you struggle during your reentry to the world?
Take your time, be slow. If you find yourself in a meandering stream heading away from the main current, backtrack. Find the river that is feeding your stream. This is where the wisdom is, at the crossroads and the connections.
October — Seven of Wands // Lyra
Ahhh you thought you could meander along forever didn’t you? You cannot remain a hermit forever! This is the month where you will find yourself challenged. Challenged by the world to fit in, tempted by the world’s version of success.
Find your true purpose. Only you can know it. Honor your artist, your poet, your expressive- whoever or whatever they are. This world of ours will tell you that success can only be found by giving your personal expression over to the machine. Don’t do it! You know better. Find your song and sing it louder than the naysayers. Dance your dance and stomp louder than the fear.
November — Eight of Pentacles
You work so that you may keep pace with the earth and the soul of the earth.
For to be idle is to become a stranger unto the seasons, and to step out of life’s procession, that marches in majesty and proudly submission towards the infinite.
When you work you are a flute through whose heart the whispering of the hours turns to music.
You have been told also that life is darkness, and in your weariness you echo what was said by the weary.
And I say that life is indeed darkness save when there is urge,
And all urge is blind save when there is knowledge,
And all knowledge is vain save when there is work,
And all work is empty save when there is love;”
An excerpt from The Prophet, by Khalil Gibran.
December — Three of Pentacles
Hard work pays off. Willpower is nothing without tangible action. We cannot visualize our way into a new life if we continue the same patterns of the life we are trying to leave behind.
This year has been full of spiritual, emotional, and mental work. But if you put in your time, faced each challenge head on like the warrior you are… Well congratulations. Now is your time. The fruits of your labor are here in abundance. All you have worked for is here, now, ready to pour down on your soul.
